Draws. Chess games can be drawn, and at higher levels of play they frequently are; hard-fought draws are a normal and accepted result of good chess. Go, under standard modern rules, cannot end in a tie: the compensation White receives for moving second (called komi) is deliberately set at a fractional value like 6.5 or 7.5 points, which makes an equal score impossible. Pick go if you are drawn to big-picture judgment and can tolerate ambiguity while you build it. If the idea of trading a battle for a war sounds interesting rather than frustrating, if you would rather develop intuition than memorize theory, and if you like the sound of a game where the question is never “is this piece safe” but “is this exchange worth it,” go is offering something chess structurally cannot.

Pick go, specifically, if you hate draws. Every counted game has a winner. That alone converts some chess players.

Consider the community shapes too. Chess’s online infrastructure is vast. Go’s English-speaking community is much smaller but has a reputation for being welcoming to beginners, and it has one structural feature chess lacks: a handicap system, in which the weaker player starts with extra stones on the board, that makes games between mismatched players genuinely competitive rather than a formality. In a small community, that matters; it means the gap between you and the nearest available opponent is playable.
